Holidays and Special Days

This is one of 31 calendar-related activities I’m posting for my 31 Days writing challenge.

At some point during the month it’s a good idea to point out all the holidays and important days that are on the calendar. The fun part about this is you can focus on as little or as much as you like each month. If birthdays are a big thing in your family, you might want to mark every upcoming birthday that month. Big holidays are fun to discuss, especially the ones your family chooses to celebrate. You can even make your own little cards to mark upcoming vacations or visits from family… even a special outing your little one is excited about, like a trip to the zoo.

Example dialog:
“Let’s look at the special days that are happening/have happened in October. I see we will celebrate Halloween, and that Daddy has a birthday in October! We already celebrated a no school day for Emily, that was a lot of fun!”

You could even take this opportunity to make a birthday card for someone or a fun, holiday-themed craft like this cute tissue-paper pumpkin I found on Pinterest!
